2013 Golden Globe Nominations: My Thoughts

Standard

goldenglobe

The 2013 Golden Globe nominations have been announced!

Since a good chunk of this year was reserved for saving money, I really haven’t seen a lot of these and when it comes to television I pretty much stick to my usual shows and I rarely check out new ones. I doubt I’ll be seeing many of the shows to make a fair prediction of the winners, but I’ll probably get around to downloading most of the movies.

Here’s the list of nominees with my thoughts on some of it. I’m not including my predictions just yet since there’s a lot I still have to see. That post will be within the week leading up to the awards.

(Bold = seen/watch it, * = want to/will see)

Best Motion Picture — Drama
Argo — I really liked this movie that I actually saw it twice!
*Django Unchained — I can’t wait to see this!
*Life of Pi — I read the book a long time ago and enjoyed it. Heard this was great though.
*Lincoln — BF still wants to go see it, so maybe a download or matinee.
Zero Dark Thirty — Eh. I thought Kathryn Bigelow’s previous film, The Hurt Locker, was amazing but I’m not too excited for this one.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama
*Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln — I’ll root for him just because I think he’s a terrific actor.
Richard Gere, Arbitrage
John Hawkes, The Sessions
Joaquin Phoenix, The Master — This film is supposed to be great, but it’s one of those films that I really have to be in the mood to watch.

Jessica Chastain, Zero Dark Thirty

*Moonrise Kingdom — I like the quirkiness of Wes Anderson’s films and I’m still waiting to see this!
*Salmon Fishing in the Yemen — I wanted to read the book before I saw it (surprising since Ewan McGregor is in it), but never got around to it. Will have to download it at some point. Soon.
